These crunchy, golden baked plantain fries are a great option to potato fries.
You can prepare these plantain fries more or less spicy, as you prefer. I encourage you to play with spices and to find your own combination. You can use turmeric, curry powder, cumin, paprika, or any spice or combinations you like. Green plantains are well suited for any spice combination, because they have a fairly neutral taste.
Spicing them very lightly with turmeric and ground black pepper allows their natural deliciousness to shine.
You can also make these fat-free.
You can serve them near a steak, or a curry or as a snack.

Steps

1
Done

Preheat the oven to 220 degrees C / 7 for the gas oven (high temperature).

2
Done

The first step to cooking plantains is to peel the fruit, which most often can be tricky. To peel green plantains, you will need to cut off both ends. Cut a shallow slit down the length of each ridge, making sure not to go too deep. You should cut through the skin but merely touch the flesh.
Slide a knife down between the flesh and the skin, lifting up slightly. The skin will come right off. You can see in the movie below how to easily peel the plantains.

3
Done

Cut the plantains like potato fries. Place the plantain fries in a large bowl. Toss with the spices, salt and melted coconut oil.
To make these fat-free, toss with 2 tbsp vegetable stock instead of oil. Your fries won't be as golden but the stock will prevent them to be dry.

4
Done

Place the fries on a baking sheet, making sure they do not overlap.

5
Done

Bake for 20 minutes, turning the chips over once halfway through baking.

6
Done

Remove and serve hot. I serve these with your favourite sauce. Plantain fries are delicious with guacamole.
